There is an epidemic of abuse and neglect towards parrots in this country. It stems from a lack of
education regarding proper care, nurturing, and love these birds need on a daily basis. Parrots are
very appealing. The reality is that people misunderstand their wild nature and the huge responsibility
it is to provide a loving forever home for such an exotic animal. This usually leads to
disenchantment and possible homelessness for the bird.

Many are put to sleep in animal shelters across the country. By the time these birds find there way
to these shelters, they have become unsocial and most people refuse to handle them.

Fortunately, there are many avian rescue / sanctuaries turning up around the nation. They work
endlessly to help stop the epidemic and rehabilitate, care, adopt, provide sanctuary, and rescue
birds in need.
